English Club

Livro Aberto's Library is located in the Jardim dos Professores and right across the street from Josina Machel Secondary School. Thanks to the American Embassy and the Cultural Affairs Office, Livro Aberto is now offering a free English Club program for twelve students from Josina Machel Secondary School for the remainder of this year. This Club consists of classes in academic English with an American English language instructor and a supported open tech lab available with access to the Transparent Language online English language learning program that will help students improve their English language skills at their own pace. In addition to classes in academic English, English Club offers students:
* Free membership to the Livro Aberto Library with services including borrowing books and access to the Tchivirika Buku Sala de Informática.
* An English language manual

* Free access to Transparent Language online language software.

* Cultural excursions with American and native English speakers

* American Culture studies
* Letter of Recommendation for application to university or other programs
* Certificate of Course Completion

Schools and Communities: Partners in Literacy

Livro Aberto has had the pleasure to take part in project planning meetings in both Quelimane and Tete with Ministry of Education, UNICEF, IFP, Provinicial, and District educational leaders this past month. In collaboration, Livro Aberto is proposing a project called Schools and Communities: Partners in Literacy. The project would begin in 2016, with the bulk of the trainings in teacher training centers (IFPs) with experienced teachers who would both model and share new ideas with their colleagues, and with partnering community members in Tete province in 2017. Then provide trainings again with Zambezia province professionals in 2018. The aim of this proposed project is to increase the numbers of literacy models in both schools and communities through the use of engaging Read Alouds along with associated Interactive Literacy Activities; promoting direct modeling of foundational literacy skills. Livro Aberto looks forward to this opportunity to partner with UNICEF and the Ministry of Education and to share its wealth of experience with professionals in Tete!
